As per the increasing demand of Sony PSP, it looks like Sony is once again considering combining a cell phone with its Playstation PSP portable gaming console. Cell phones are available in combinations with .MP3 players, digital cameras, audio and video recorders, and mobile computers.

Reuters on Monday reported that the Nikkei business daily on Saturday wrote that Sony is considering a hybrid cell phone-gaming device to compete with Apple's iPod and iPhone. The iPhone OS 3.0 improvements alone might be enough to satisfy many existing iPhone and iPhone 3G users. But if your contract is expiring or even if it's not, there are a lot of reasons to make the jump to the iPhone 3G S, which sells for $199 and $299 for 16-GB and 32-GB versions.

The iPhone 3G S sports an improved 3-megapixel camera that shoots video, features auto focus, and allows you to adjust the focus, exposure and white balance by tapping on objects in the screen. There's also a macro mode that's not great but adds some functionality.

Porn Search Blocked in China & Islamic Countries

Finally the Bing is here, the latest avatar for MSN. But most of the world — especially Islamic and Chinese countries — isn't getting the real Bing. As reported last week, searching for "sex" or "porn" in Microsoft's new search engine 'Bing' returned dozens of explicit images and videos, as long as the user turns "safe search" off.

Thanks to Bing's autoplay feature, dragging the mouse over a video thumbnail starts playing it immediately — meaning that you can watch hours of hardcore sex without even leaving the Bing Web site (or paying for porn). But it turns out that that only works if you say you're an English-speaking American, Canadian or Australian.

For the rest of the world, it's different. Users in most countries get raunchy images, but not videos. And a for a dozen or so countries, searching for "sex" or "porn" gets you nothing at all, not even Web links. Predictably, that list includes most of the Islamic world, including Indonesia, Malaysia, Turkey and what Microsoft calls "Arabian" countries.

It also includes India, where the "ban" is causing quite a stir on local blogs, as well as China and Chinese-predominant Taiwan, Hong Kong and Singapore, plus Korea and Thailand.

Buy Twitter in just $500 million

Is Google going to buy Twitter! No, Facebook's going to buy it! Or Yahoo--oh, give me a break, they all can't afford it anymore. The hottest news is that Apple has been looking at buying Twitter, too.

Yes, Apple. It's a hardware company that really only markets and hypes up software as a means to sell more hardware--like how iTunes really exists to sell iPods--and yet apparently it wants to buy Twitter. I'm not sure Twitter could convince me to buy any hardware, except maybe a water balloon to carry around in the hopes that maybe I could lob it at annoyingly Twitter-happy Ashton Kutcher.

You know what? If I had $500 million in cash lying around, I'd look into buying Twitter, too. I'd also buy a flying car. Twitter happens to be, oh, the hottest start-up in the digital-media business right now, so it'd probably be a good investment. But it's also buzzworthy as a form of communication and news delivery--and with the iPhone, it's completely understandable that Apple would be interested in this sort of property. A BusinessWeek report highlights this: Twitter apps are hot on the iPhone, it'd be a cheap buy for Apple--so why not? It ends on a rather smart note, that perhaps Apple ought to invest in Twitter, not buy it.

Why does this sound so familiar? Maybe because we've heard it all before. Two years ago, Google and Microsoft and Yahoo and News Corp. and probably several Abu Dhabi oil billionaires were reportedly in the running to buy Digg, back when it was on the top of Silicon Valley's start-up heap. It was almost a done deal. And again. And again. And none of that has happened yet.

Is Motorola A Loser in the UK Mobile Market?

Motorola reported its first-quarter results this morning, and not once did co-CEO Sanjay Jha mention his company’s plans for Windows Mobile. I think that’s significant.

Late last year, Motorola announced it will refocus its efforts on only three operating systems for cell phones: Android, Windows Mobile and its own proprietary software. Android was to become the main area of focus, while Motorola waited for a new version of Windows Mobile to come out in late 2009 or 2010.

But this morning, while Jha talked about his company’s plans to release several Android phones in the fourth quarter of 2009, he didn’t mention Windows Mobile at all. There can be many explanations. Here’s the one that, I think, is the most likely: An update on current Windows Mobile may still be ways away, possibly not coming until late 2010 (Microsoft’s releases are often delayed). For Motorola, that may be too late.

When I talk to analysts about Motorola, they say the company must prove itself in the next half a year to a year. They no longer mention Windows Mobile phones, either. Motorola hasn't yet responded to my request for comment.

Down Market Affecting Microsoft Too

There was little optimism in remarks by Microsoft executives when they reported fiscal third-quarter results on Apr. 23. Chipmaker Intel had said the PC business had bottomed when it announced earnings on Apr. 14. A few days later, IBM gave investors glimmers of hope that the economy may be turning around. And whole divisions of Apple seemed to shrug off the recession entirely when the company's results soundly beat analysts' estimates on Apr. 22.

Microsoft, the world's largest software maker, is seeing no such rays of sunshine. In an Apr. 24 call with Wall Street analysts, Microsoft Chief Financial Officer Chris Liddell sounded downright morose. "We remain more cautious than most," he said. "While we'd all like to hope that the recovery will be short and painless, we unfortunately think it will be slow and difficult."

The numbers show why. In the fiscal third quarter ended Mar. 30, the company suffered the very first year-over-year sales decline in its history, with revenue slipping 6% to $13.65 billion. For starters, Microsoft is feeling the effects of a recession that has depleted demand for PCs. Businesses are hitting the brakes on new computer purchases, and many consumers are opting for new, low-cost netbooks that carry an older version of Windows that costs less than half the amount Microsoft gets for software on a full-featured PC.

Latest Deal between Amazon and Apple

A new tool that lets consumers download digital books onto Apple devices could spur demand for some of the 240,000 digital titles sold through Amazon's online bookstore. But by giving people the option to read digital books on devices they already own, Amazon may also limit the appeal of its own line of e-book readers, some analysts fret.

On Mar. 3, Amazon (AMZN) released an application that lets owners of Apple's (AAPL) iPhone and iPod Touch devices download any book from its online store of more than 240,000 digital titles straight to their handheld. The app puts Amazon's e-books in front of customers who don't want to pay $359 or more for the Kindle 2, or who simply don't want to bother with an additional device.

Amazon stressed that its main goal was to make reading more convenient for owners of Kindle readers. The company's Whispersync technology now lets customers set down their Kindle at home and pick up reading where they left off on their iPhone—say, while on the bus or waiting in line at the checkout counter. "We view Kindle for iPhone as a complement" to the full e-book reader, says Amazon spokeswoman Cinthia Portugal.

Gmail down, hit with phishing scandle

First, Google Inc.'s e-mail service experienced an outage that lasted several hours in the early morning. Then, a phishing scam made its way around Google Talk, the chat protocol embedded within the Gmail Web interface.

For the former, Google issued an apology and an explanation via its Gmail blog. For the latter, Google added the apparent perpetrator of the phishing attack, a website called ViddyHo dot com, to its blacklist.

The users transmitting the links have been blocked, the website marked as malicious in Google search results and the domain indicated as a phishing website to people using the Firefox, Safari and Chrome browsers, a Google spokesperson said in an e-mail.

Basically, the action meant that if the ViddyHo dot com domain was ever worth anything to anyone, it's not anymore. The website also appears to have been taken offline.

People targeted by the scam received a message from what appeared to be a friend's user name. The message contained a link, which led to a Web page asking for the user's Google log-in name and password. Those who did that had their accounts used to send similar messages to their online contacts.

Satellite collision :Wake Up Call for Space Taffic Rules

With the increase of space debris, although monitoring systems of relevant countries are running on full power, debris monitoring and surveillance still require collaborative efforts from the international community. What are the reactions of the various parties involved?

Guan Kejiang: Cartwright has said that the satellite collision accident demonstrates that all countries should improve the sharing of space information. In the future, countries should better exchange satellite orbit data with each other. US State Department spokesperson Rob McInturff said that all countries with interests in outer space should mutually cooperate in order to avoid similar accidents. Relevant parties in the US and Russia have already made contact. During the investigation process, US and Russian experts may arrange further meetings.

Gmail signatures have your location too

Google has added a location-aware kick in the month of february. Just a week after the search firm released its Latitude mobile device friend-tracker, Google Labs has a new tool that lets Gmail automatically include your location in an e-mail's signature.

"Sometime ago, I noticed how all mail systems tell you when an email was written, but not where it was sent from," said Marco Bonechi, the author of the tool on Gmail's blog. "Because I love to travel, the first question in many messages I receive is 'where are you?' and by the time I answer I am often somewhere else."

The experimental feature can be switched on by going to the Labs tab in Gmail settings. Users also need to have their email signature enabled and have the "append your location to the signature" option clicked in the general settings tab.

By default, it works by checking your public IP address to estimate the location, so it's not exactly spot-on. For example, it flags me as one town over from where I actually am. But if you install Google Gears' location module, it will use wi-fi triangulation to get more accurate results.

Darwin is now 200, theory still in controversy

It's well known that Charles Darwin's groundbreaking theory of evolution made many people furious because it contradicted the Biblical view of creation. But few know that it also created problems for Darwin at home with his deeply religious wife, Emma.

Darwin held back the book to avoid offending his wife, said Ruth Padel, the naturalist's great-great-granddaughter. "She said he seemed to be putting God further and further off," Padel said in her north London home. "But they talked it through, and she said, "Don't change any of your ideas for fear of hurting me.'"

The 1859 publication of "On the Origin of Species" changed scientific thought forever — and generated opposition that continues to this day. It is this elegant explanation of how species evolve through natural selection that makes Darwin's 200th birthday on Feb. 12 such a major event.

More than 300 birthday celebrations are planned in Britain alone, where Darwin's face graces the 10-pound bill along with that of Queen Elizabeth II. Shrewsbury, the central England town where Darwin was born and raised, is holding a monthlong festival for its most famous son. And a permanent exhibition re-creating some of his most famous experiments is opening at Down House, his former home near London.

Broadband is the Priority for British

Diego AguirreCommunications minister Lord Carter has pledged to deliver 2mbps broadband to every UK home by 2012.

The interim Digital Britain report, published last week, outlines a wide-ranging 22-point action plan that examines both broadcasting and the UK's digital infrastructure.

"We are developing plans to move towards a historic universal service commitment for broadband and digital services to include options up to 2 Megabits per second, building on the approach to postal services and telephone services in centuries past," media secretary Andy Burnham told the House of Commons.

Currently, telecoms firms are only obliged to provide lines that can handle 28.8kbps. At 2Mbps lines will be capable of handling much more video and sites that offer much greater interactivity.

But the report did not provide definitive answers on how the promise, called the Universal Service Commitment, would be funded. Carter suggested scrapping BT's obligation to solely provide the required investment, but instead that the cost burden is shared by all industry players, including Sky and Virgin, as well as mobile phone operators, broadcasters and web content owners. Can Google's GDrive Replace PenDrive ?

Google giant is all set to launch 'GDrive', which would allow people to store almost all their data on the internet and access it from wherever they are.

Says the US-based technology news website: "Throw your hard drive away, Google's Gdrive is arriving in 2009." The GDrive is expected to allow people to access and update all their online data such as emails, photographs, music, documents and spreadsheets from any device with an internet connection.

Google has been working hard to convince computer users of the benefits of 'cloud computing', in which the web rather than the hard drive is used as the place to store information. GDrive is likely to bring together all of Google's existing web-based services. Purchase Free BlackBerry Storm 9500 on Vodafone.

Sony Ericsson Posts $245 Million Loss

Mobile phone giant, Sony Ericsson continues to struggle as the global economic slowdown is hurting its sales in mature markets. The company posted a loss of about $245 million for the fourth quarter of 2008, a dramatic drop from the $495 million profit for the same period last year. The loss comes despite the release of the high-profile Xperia X1 and an 8.1-megapixel camera phone.

Sony Ericsson shipped 24.2 million phones for the quarter, a 21% drop from a year ago. The company is being especially hard hit by the faltering global economy, as many customers are holding off upgrading their handsets to save money. Unlike rivals Nokia, Samsung, and Motorola, Sony Ericsson does not have a large portfolio of entry-level phones to sell in emerging markets like China.

"In economic terms, 2008 has been a tumultuous year with world markets experiencing a serious downturn," Sony Ericsson president Dick Komiyama said in a statement. "We foresee a continued deterioration in the marketplace in 2009, particularly in the first half."

With nearly every analyst and mobile phone company expecting a contraction in the cell phone market in 2009, Sony Ericsson said it's undergoing massive restructuring in order to achieve about $398 million in cost savings. The company has already announced 2,000 layoffs, and Komiyama said that number may grow. Buy Sony Ericsson C905 three monthly offers.

Sony on Tom Hanks at Consumer Electronics Show

After making Sony Pictures a few jillion dollars, Tom Hanks can get away with sassing Sony Chief Executive Howard Stringer. Stringer's keynote Thursday at the International Consumer Electronics Show began with a clip of Hanks in the upcoming Sony movie "Angels & Demons."

Then the actor appeared on stage, parodying the opening remarks by CES boss Gary Shapiro, mocking prepared remarks on the teleprompter and needling Stringer. Hanks said his first Sony purchase was a used Trinitron bought from his girlfriend. He said he now has a towering pile of obsolete Sony products in his living room, topped by a "Bluetooth" video player 8 feet up in the air.Apparently, Hanks was supposed to mention seeing Sony's name on the cameras on movie sets, but he said, "Really, I have yet to see that."

Describing his electronic book, Hanks pretended to call out Amazon.com's Kindle instead of Sony's product, saying he's using "The Ki ... Sony Digital Reader, which is a fine product in its own right." Said Stringer when Hanks was done: "I took a risk, it failed, but we'll still be friends, at least until after the movie."

On a more serious note, Stringer talked about how the consumer-electronics giant will continue to develop new products and services despite the downturn, and he presented a new set of principles guiding the company. Latest Nokia E71 Grey on three deals.

2009's Hot Gadgets

As Cloud Computing and Web-based applications become the new mantra, 2009 will belong to netbooks such as the tiny Asus EEE PC. Personally, I’m looking forward to Sony’s contender, rumoured to be the ‘Vaio P’. Teasers hint at a stylish compact device (goodbye trackpad, hello trackball) coupled with an 8-inch widescreen LCD.

Nintendo ‘DSi’ features two clickable 3.25-inch screens, the bottom one being the touchscreen. You also get an SD card slot, on which you can store music or the photos you click. Latest mobile phone Nokia 6600 fold on 3 gadget.

Samsung recently showed off its 40-inch, OLED TV -- and it was just 8.9-mm thick! Mind you, the Full-HD set still has a contrast ratio of 1,00,000:1 -- more than most current TVs.

While the iPhone can be used with two fingers, this tablet will blow open the doors on multi-touch by letting you work with all 10 digits at the same time. Makes me wonder how I’d play Tomb Raider now!
